What Is Sociology? Sociology is one of the social sciences—disciplines that examine the human, or social, world. The social sciences are interested in understanding the social world in the same way that the natural sciences are interested in understanding the natural or physical world. Social scientists and natural scientists even use many of the same research methods, including the scientific method!
